From Jr. Prime Time to Florida Phenoms
Before founding Florida Phenoms Basketball, Coach Chris Moore was making headlines as one of Illinois' standout high school football players.
Growing up in East St. Louis, Moore earned the nickname “Jr. Prime Time” for his explosive athleticism, confidence, and competitive spirit. In 1991, he finished his high school career with an extraordinary 5,033 rushing yards and 77 touchdowns, breaking Illinois state records and leaving his mark on the storied East St. Louis Flyers football program.
Years later, that same competitive drive would become the foundation of something much bigger.
The Beginning of Florida Phenoms
In 2007, Coach Chris Moore founded Florida Phenoms with a simple but ambitious goal: give talented young basketball players from Naples, Florida, the opportunity to compete against the best.
At the time, Moore wanted to bring together top local athletes and give them the chance to challenge established programs from larger basketball markets, including Miami, Orlando, and Tampa.
What began as a small group of determined players grew into one of Southwest Florida's longstanding youth basketball programs.
Over the years, Florida Phenoms teams have captured state and national championships through organizations including AAU, YBOA, and USSSA, proving that athletes from a smaller community could compete on a much bigger stage.
Building Players. Building a Legacy.
Nearly two decades after its founding, Florida Phenoms continues to emphasize the principles that helped establish the program: hard work, accountability, skill development, and competition.
Through regular clinics, players develop advanced ball-handling skills, compete in challenging one-on-one matchups, and gain extensive experience in competitive scrimmages.
The program brings together players of different ages and skill levels, encouraging younger athletes to challenge themselves against older, more experienced competition.
Along the way, generations of Phenoms players have gone on to compete in high school, college, and beyond—not only in basketball, but in football, golf, and other sports.
What started in 2007 as an opportunity for Naples athletes to compete against the best has become a lasting legacy of competition, development, and opportunity.
